Health Benefits of Hemp Oil

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

By Ross Bridgeford Hemp oil has long been recognised as one of the most versatile and beneficial substances known to man. Derived from hemp seeds (a member of the achene family of fruits) it has been regarded as a superfood due to its high essential fatty acid content and the unique ratio of omega3 to omega6 and gamma linolenic acid (GLA) - 2:5:1. It is this ratio that is believed to be optimal in terms of improving skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne. It has been reported that those using hemp oil as a supplement begin to experience noticably softer skin, stronger nails and thicker, smoother hair after only a few weeks. The oil is approximately 57% linoleic (LA) and 19% linolenic (LNA) acids, the EFAs known as omega6 and omega3 respectively. EFAs are the building blocks of the fatty acids known as eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) which are of course associated with the health benefits as noted above, alongside their benefits to almost every cell in the body and are widely accepted as beneficial in warding off and treating degenerative diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. Hemp oil is also the only food oil that contains not only omega3, omega6, but also GLA. This GLA content means that hemp is a rival to Evening Primrose Oil as well as flazx seed oil, as GLA is the main EFA that is believed to relieve symptoms of pre-menstrual tension (PMT). Hemp oil is also ideal for those who are concerned about taking fish supplements due to the reported contamination of fish with mercury and other toxins. This is particularly prevalent for pregnant women and nursing mothers who are looking to reduce their fish intake but still maintain a desired level of EFAs. Hemp Seeds EFAs can also be obtained from eating hemp seeds. These seeds also pack a significant protein punch, which rivals that of soy. Hemp seeds contain many essential amino acids, have high fibre content and are also rich in Vitamin E, Vitamin C and chlorophyll. The added benefit of hemp seeds is that there has been no known genetic modification of hemp plants, unlike with other sources of protein and antioxidants. Hemp also grows in such a way that no pesticides or chemicals are required to grow the crops. The growing of hemp plants creates almost zero waste and the byproducts of these crops are also useful in other commercial applications. Hemp Oil Preparation As with all essential fatty acids, hemp oil must not be heated or fried and it is very succeptable to heat and light. The oil is extracted from the seed by a slowly rotating press. The pressure from this press squeezes the oil from the seed and leaves only the remaining seed-cake. This is always done in an oxygen-free environment, as exposure to oxygen can rapidly depreciate the quality of the oil. Always ensure that your oils are prepared in such a way (i.e. without excessive heat, light and oxygen) and always store hemp oil in the refrigerator, use quickly, and never heat. Is it Illegal? In short, no. The Latin name Cannabis sativa actually translates as useful hemp! The confusion and concern often arises due to the fact that hemp seed/oil is derived from the plant Cannabis sativa, which is often incorrectly linked to the psychoactive substance, marijuana. The psychoactive ingredient of marijuana is the chemical THC, however the quantities of THC in hemp oil are so small that they are regarded as insignificant. In fact, for commercial hemp oil products to comply with Government regulations, they must contain less than 10ppm THC, which is very, very little. However, in the majority of products absolutely none can be detected. It would be almost impossible for this level of THC intake to measure even close to illegal levels during a drug urine test. Although the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) announced a worldwide ban on the sale of all hemp based foods and oils in 2001, this decision was condemned as illegal in 2004 following a successful appeal to the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Fransisco. What Makes Cheating Spouses Cheat?

Monday, May 26th, 2008

By Larry Bilotta Have you ever wondered what makes cheating spouses cheat in the first place? They certainly didnt get married with the intention of being unfaithful to their spouse, so why did they do it? Many infidelity experts on the internet these days are offering solutions on how to find PROOF that will expose your spouse or catch them in the act. But instead of putting 100% of your effort in finding solid proof, your energy would be better spent understanding what went wrong in your marriage. Its fairly common for chronic cheating spouses to give up on a relationship the moment things start to become a little difficult. Rather than admitting and accepting that theres a problem in their marriage, they look for someone else to fulfill their needs. These needs could be anything from a physical connection to strictly intellectual relations leading to an emotional affair. Affairs take place because one spouses needs are no longer being met by their partner. Cheating spouses are then drawn to someone else who WILL (temporarily) meet those needs. What increases the chance of an affair taking place is when a man marries a woman who idealizes love and spends her whole life going in and out of marriages in search of her perfect soul mate. Soul mates may exist in romance movies but in real life, it takes work to create a lasting relationship. Like it or not, marriage is WORKbut it doesnt have to be hard work. If you want win your spouse over after an affair, you need to know how to meet his/her needs. Every couple goes into marriage with expectations of each other that are NEVER CLEARLY DISCUSSED simply because they dont REALLY understand, nor can they clearly explain what their own expectations arelet alone their spouses! Cheating spouses cheat because theyre in search of unmet, yet unspoken deep emotional needs. Its as simple as this..If YOU arent meeting your spouses needs, they will find SOMEONE ELSE who WILL! This fact is also one of the reasons why most affairs dont last. Let me explain When your spouse met this other man/woman, they THOUGHT that this other person was meeting their needs, but what was really happening is they were blinded by the Romance stage of a relationship. You and your spouse went through this stage also. If you think back to the beginning of your relationship, you may not have noticed at the time, but the two of you were on your BEST behavior. Looking back, it might even seem like your spouse was a different person back then. The reason? There is actually a chemical released in your brain that makes you feel infatuated with this other person. It would even be safe to say that cheating spouses cant think straight when theyre caught up in this biological phenomenon. This is also why some couples make irrational decisions early in their relationship, like going off to Las Vegas and getting married on a whim. Down the road, after the Romance stage of their relationship is over, many of these couples eventually get divorced. So if youre worried that your cheating spouse is in love with this other person, chances are, the affair is VERY short livedwhich means you STILL have a chance to win over your spouse! You owe it to yourself (and your children if you have them) to give your marriage a second chance. In fact, heres a statistic that might give you some inspiration… A study from the Institute for American Values found that almost eight out of 10 couples who avoided divorce were happily married five years later. If you can just get over this affair, this obstacle in your marriage, and start meeting each others needs, I promise you, your marriage will be much stronger and more fulfilling than it waseven BEFORE the affair took place. Larry Bilottas special report, The Secret Path to Divorce, shows you how to recognize the WARNING SIGNS that lead to divorcebefore its too late to save your marriage. Holiday Eating Anxieties for Bariatric Patients

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

By Meloney Hall Most Bariatric Surgery Patients experience a wide range of Holiday eating anxieties which can actually ruin a perfectly good Holiday around friends and family. Prior to surgery, Holidays meant family, friends, and lots of food to indulge in and enjoy often at a glutinous rate simply because Holiday foods are special because they are only provided during the season and they are prepared so carefully which adds guilt if you dont partake of it. How many times do you hear these phrases said at a Holiday gathering? Thats ALL youre going to have? I worked so hard on that dish You better eat this now, because it wont be here for another year. It will hurt my feelings if you dont eat this.. These are very special ingredients I ordered specifically for this dish You cant be NOT HUNGRY its a Holiday! Just ONE LITTLE BITE, PLEEEEEZEEEEZ.. Have more, theres plenty Take some of this home with you if youre not going to eat it now Oh nonsense! Youre allowed to eat a lot today! You should have worn your FAT PANTS to gorge yourself like the rest of us OH, how this list could fill a book, right? Such comments add enough stress to non-surgery individuals who carefully watch their weight, let alone those who have had the Bariatric surgery and have to be careful what they eat, how much they eat, and how often they eat. So you are NOT ALONE in feeling some anxiety about being around all of the special food at gatherings this season. Id like to offer some suggestions that have worked for me and others during this most stressful time when Holidays equates to special foods and the pressure to partake in them is way too much out of hand at times. 1. Prepare you mind for the event: Reflect on past Holiday experiences and evaluate what lies ahead this year for you. Have it in your mind what you will say and do when those food-pushers taunt you or down-right threaten you to eat during the special occasion. 2. Anticipate the food: Reflect on past Holiday foods that are always provided to you within your social circle. Predetermine what you WILL eat and what you WONT eat. Making a decision ahead of time will curb your gut-reaction to cave in to the urgings by others to eat what you shouldnt eat. 3. Never try anything new at the party: Not knowing how you will react to the food carries the high risk of making you ill and calling for you quick retreat to the bathroom or feeling sick for an hour or so. This will draw attention to you, which is something you dont want. The host and guest will feel badly for you, so dont put them or you in such a situation. Only eat things that you are absolutely certain that you can tolerate. 4. Take baby-bites of the special foods: Literally, take a baby-bite if you absolutely must partake of foods strictly for the social expectations. If its too much for a babys mouth, then youre putting too much on the spoon or fork. 5. No-Guilt in Tossing it: In a social event where you dont want attention drawn to how little you are eating, take a small plate with small portions of food, then take small bites of each item, then TOSS the rest away when no one is looking. This gives the appearance that youre normal and all will assume you have gotten your fill. This spares hurting the feelings of Great Aunt Gerdie who truly does cry if you refuse her special 60%-sugar/90%-fat/carb-loaded/stroke-on-a-plate pie. Tossing out the unwanted uneaten portions is just a different way of consuming so dont feel guilty about it. All that matters is that Great Aunt Gerdie delights in seeing her pie disappearing. 6. Eat healthy before you go and bring your own essentials: Never go to a Holiday party hungry NEVER! This is self-sabotage in the worst way! Enough said? Take along your own treats and drinks that are RNY-Friendly to you. Dont request an extra effort on your host. You know what you need, so take it with you. While they are eating pies and cakes, you can have the sugar-free fudge sickles you brought along or those sugar-free pudding cups. And if they are serving only sodas or alcohol and you cant do them, bring your own herbal teas or no-sugar-added hot chocolate packets. This will make you, the host, and the guests feel comfortable and nobody will feel that you are suffering as they eat your NO-NOs. 7. Talk more than you eat: The Holidays should be about PEOPLE, not food. So be social. Focus on the people; laugh with them, tell stories, listen to their tall tales, play games, etc. If you do these things, youll be amazed at how well the gathering will go for you simply because you didnt focus on food. And when the food-pushers come along, just glance by them off into the distance and make your exit because you want to talk to so-n-so or your cell phone is vibrating and youve got to excuse yourself for the call. Perfectly acceptable to have a pre-planned way out when you need one. 8. Change the food-subject: Others may want to cry boo-hoo with you if you keep telling them of all the foods youre missing out on this year. Dont do that! Rather than mourn the loss of your favorite Holiday treats, brag on the fact that youre feeling so much healthier, your clothes are getting baggier, and youre dreaming again of all the great things that are in store for you now that you are slimming down. Dont allow anyone to pity you for not eating like you used to eat. 9. Wear a knock-out outfit: WOW them all this Holiday season by wearing a special outfit that you feel very proud to be seen in. The food isnt special to you anymore youve swapped that for the special outfits you can now wear! Let people whisper to each other how great you look rather than how little you are eating. The stress of not eating so much will be far away to you when you feel good about yourself and look good too. 10. Make your visit brief: if you are getting too much pressure from others or are experiencing too many anxieties, let leave the gathering earlier than you originally planned. Maybe youre tired, the roads are getting bad, you realized you need to do something remember that pre-planned escape should be there for you if you need it. I can attest that these are tactics that Ive used and STILL use in social gatherings when it is expected to eat special foods during special times. Granted, I am three years post-op, so my anxieties are not as high as they once were but they certainly threatened my Holiday happiness not too long ago! Remember this most of all. The more prepared you are ahead of time, the less youll feel nervous about those awful Holiday Eating Anxieties. Now go have fun! Meloney B. Child Custody, The Painful Truth

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

By S. A. Baker Child custody is not an easy choice. Whether attorneys and judges decide on who will get the child custody or if parents can come to an agreement on their own, someone is going to lose. There are specific laws with very stringent guidelines about child custody. The bottom line is not who should have rights to child custody, but who is going to provide the best environment and upbringing for the child. Therefore, child custody cases can become difficult, confusing, and even frustrating. The bottom line is that for every child custody case, there needs to be a qualified child custody attorney behind it. What are you to do then when faced with child custody issues? If you are in this situation, you will need to find qualified child custody attorneys to help you. And, you will also want to find a good amount of research about what child custody processes are like in your area. There, you will find quite a bit of information regarding child custody and possibly find qualified child custody attorneys in your area. No, child custody battles are not easy. They are complex and often leaves someone hurt. Each state has its own set of rules governing child custody laws. Many times, children are placed with biological parents first. But, the end result will be a judge trying to decide what the best place for that child is. In child custody battles, parents will have to decide why they believe the child should be with them. Things like money, housing situations, and how they react with the child. Child custody cases happen every day. If you are one of the people who are affected by a child custody case, you will want to do some research. Websites like www.thesmartattorneys.com offer information to help point you in the right direction. You should prepare yourself first, though, with qualified attorneys who can help you and the child find the best solution. In the end, every child custody case is about the childs well being. Winter Excursions

Friday, May 9th, 2008

By Chris Curley As always, patience, presentation and how you drag that spinner or soft lure through the water makes all the difference in the world, especially during the cold months. Thats not to say a balsa or plastic lure wouldnt work, its just that chances are most bass wont expend the energy to chase after a small lure or come to the surface to strike. Thats all Im sayin. Go bigger and you might have more strikes. All kidding aside, spinners and soft lures work better slow-rolled. As I have mentioned before in earlier articles, when the temperature drops, slow your roll. Fish are cold blooded and their metabolism slows, therefore their movements slow also. And since the food chain selection diminishes during the cold season, its not too hard to figure out what to throw, something big, slow and jiggley. However, very small cranks, popped and slow rolled, have a tendency to work during warmer and clearer conditions. Some anglers use 10 -12 inch soft lures during winter. Some swear on adding pork trailers to your jigs. I feel that combing jigs and softies that usually work in your particular area in summer work well. For instance, here in Indiana, I find that the ounce Chartreuse spinner by itself is a great summertime lure and the 4 inch red curly tail worm from Berkley Gulp is a summer secret weapon. Combine the two and you have a nice fat combination of two proven lures. You jig and pig that beast around a timber pile and you might just be surprised with the outcome. Just in case youre not familiar with adding soft lures to jigs, heres a short lesson. Run the hook of your favorite jig through the nose and into the body of your favorite soft lure. When the nose reaches the straight part of the hook, let the point protrude through the side and then slide it up to the head or the skirt and your done. One thing Ive realized during my short time in this world is (and not to dwell on the bass species) largemouth can be as different as humans. Meaning, most fish in general like different types of prey, bass especially wont always go after the same thing every time. The problem is that they like a wide variety of prey. It has been said that largemouth bass remember lures that theyve been caught on and wont strike them again. I have seen this first hand. One summer I was fishing Retriever Pond in Glenview FWA here in southern Indiana, I hooked a 9 - 10 inch largemouth on a ounce Chartreuse spinner near the middle of the lake, after de-hooking and re-acclimating the fish, it stayed right in front of me in the feeder channel I released it into. So I decided to test the theory. I tossed the spinner into the water where the feeder entered the lake, as not too spook the fish. I cranked it up-stream, if you will, with the speed I normally would in the summer. Low and behold, the fish charged the spinner at about three feet. However, just before striking, (about two or three inches away) the fish turned and swam back into the lake. Talk about results in experimentation. Try combing your favorite lures until you come up with something you might think a Largemouth hasnt seen. Maybe add a skirt to a worm, or a plastic grub to a spinner. The bigger the meal, the bigger the appeal. So since (during cold weather) bass wont expend the energy to chase something not worth chasing and chances of catching a fish to begin with are low, why not do more sight fishing while youre out? Im not saying not to fish, however when you just cant seem to get a fish to bite and if you plan to fish that same area during the warmer seasons, take some time to really get to know your spot. Since everything is dead and the water is generally clearer, you get a chance to see more of the area around the dock or the bottom of the lake in the places that are usually deeper during spring and summer. Sometimes you get a really good look at the contour of the area you havent had a chance to fish yet. Also, chances of finding sunken structures such as roads, culverts and dog-houses also increase. Sometimes, even in the dead of winter, all methods of catching fish can work. On that note, as I always say, dont be afraid to try everything in your arsenal. Sometimes a lipless crank will work as opposed to a big jiggley lure and visa versa. Also, a nice big creek you can cast to the opposite side and drag that brand new kitchen sink across to your side works well in warmer weather. Just kiddin, but you get the jist. And while were on the subject of winter fishing, dont forget to dress for the occasion. Hypothermia is real and it can be deadly, so dont forget to dress in layers and wear a hat, even a baseball cap holds in a surprising amount of heat. Obviously a warmer hat is necessary for colder days. Some people out there think that Indiana isnt a cold weather state, which is hogwash to put it nicely. We Hoosiers know what cold weather is and how to deal with it. When I was in the Army, we were taught certain aspects of keeping warm in cold weather conditions. Heres a little saying that our drill sergeant used to say; Clean, Open, Layers of Dry clothing keeps you warm. Isnt that cute? What this obviously means is stay clean and dry and dress in loose layers of clothing. The standard four is what youre looking for. Light and close nit. The type of food you consume is also important. Carbs and sugars are the best. That doesnt mean a six-pack of beer, alcohol can seem to warm you however, that is a myth and can lead to hypothermia almost as fast as falling into the water. A couple of sandwiches, maybe a brownie or two and dont forget to bring along a thermos of something nice and hot. Its also a good idea to read up on how to deal with hypothermia victims just in case you or your fishing buddy begins to show signs of the condition. So, dont let the cold months weather getcha down. Sometimes you have to try everything until you find what works and then you have to start all over the next time you go out. Remember, dress warm and as always, keep happy thoughts and good fishin to ya. Dieters : Questions You Must Ask Yourself when You Want to Lose Weight

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

By Janice Elizabeth Small Now I know you’re always asking yourself questions. You know the ones like “Why can’t I lose weight?” and “Why does everything that’s bad for you taste good?”. But those questions won’t get you anywhere except maybe helping you feel sorry for yourself and setting you up for a spot of comfort eating. A more empowering set of questions, on the other hand, will get you off to a good start if you’re about to begin a weight loss program (or keep you on track if you’re in the middle of a diet). Here are the questions to ask when you want to give your weight loss efforts a real kick start. Why do you want to lose weight? Make sure your reasons for losing weight are clear. Do you want to look good? Do you want to feel healthier? Has your doctor given you a health warning? Do you just want to be able to run around the park with your kids? Maybe all these reasons apply. The more reasons you have for losing weight and the more you are aware of them the easier it will be to remind yourself to keep to your weight loss program when the going gets tough. Even better, spend some time imagining how you will FEEL when you succeed. This will do more than anything to increase your motivation. How much weight do you want to lose? Set yourself a target. This gives you something to aim for and you will be able to see how much closer you are getting each week. You can never succeed if you don’t know what the end point is. “I want to lose weight” is not a measurable goal you have succeeded (of sorts) after you lose an ounce. Make your goal specific with a target to aim for. What will you do to lose weight? Nothing is going to change unless you do. So what changes are you going to make? Will you follow a particular plan or just cut down in general? How will you know if you’re succeeding? What exercise will you take (if any)? How will you make sure that you follow your plan? What will you do about the things that might get in the way? Vague ideas about losing weight need to translate via a concrete plan into action. Ask yourself the questions and decide what you will do. Who will support you? Some people will actively encourage you and help your efforts while others will get in the way of your plans. Do you know who your supporters will be? And who you will need to avoid or find some way to deal with? Ask for the support you need from those you think are most likely to give it or join a club of people who are also trying to lose weight. These are available online or offline. If you can afford it think about getting a coach all that focus on your success will work wonders. As for those who are less than enthusiastic about your plans, think about ways of handling them. Of course you’ll need a different strategy for close friends and relatives than you need for the guy who brings cakes into the office and insists you eat one! And the final question? When will you start? There’s no time like TODAY. No eating the pantry empty before you begin. Dump the junk food and get started right now! Mediterranean Diet It’s All About the Fats

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

By Allison Preston The Mediterranean Diet is nothing new, in fact it was “discovered” by Doctor Ancel Keys of the United States Army in 1945. He observed the diet of the 16 countries that bordered the Mediterranean Sea and was able to find some common factors that most of them shared. Fresh fruits and vegetables were consumed in very high quantities as were cereals, breads. Many countries also consumed beans, nuts, and seeds in generous amounts. Eggs were consumed fairly regularly, and wine was consumed daily although in moderate amounts. The oils used for cooking were primarily plant based oils like olive oil. They consumed only small portions of heavily marbled fats like those found in red meats and dairy consumption was kept to a minimum. For many westerners this presented something of a nutritional conundrum. Western medicine had taught us to eat low fats foods and avoid high fat foods at all costs. As our understanding of fats and how they are processed by the body changed the opinion of Mediterranean Diet changed. Olive oil is considered a good fat and actually lowers cholesterol in the body. Additionally new studies have shown that olive oil lowers the production of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes which have been shown to help prevent cancer. While there are many other factors that contribute to the overall health of the people of the Mediterranean region, nutrition is an important part. So by following the Mediterranean Diet you will be able to eat full flavored healthy foods that are good for you and your body. Copyright Fitness-Web.com, all Rights Reserved.
