5 Top Model Train Accessories

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By B. Murphy Many people’s first introduction to model railroading is with a simple circle or oval on a sheet of plywood. No scenery, no landscaping and maybe not even any buildings or vehicles. It doesn’t take long, however, to get the urge to start adding accessories to the railroad to make it more realistic. For many people, this become a lifelong endeavor, and can grow to very large proportions. Every layout is different and everyone has their own favorite accessories, but the following 5 items are some of the most common accessories that add a level of realism and interest to your model railroad. 1. Train Station This is one of the first buildings most people add to their layout. It gives the railroad a starting and ending point and often serves as the basis for an entire town or city to be built up around it. 2. Lighting There are many forms of lighting for railroads. There can be background lighting to give a backdrop a degree of realism or street lights to add to the ambiance of a city. These may be strictly for decoration, or they may actually light up at night to give the streets a realistic glow. 3. Rail Cars The locomotive usually gets the most attention when setting up a model railroad, but there are many choices for railcars as well. 4. People and Animals A city or railyard isn’t complete without people as part of the design. And if your layout travels through mountains or countryside, animals add a touch of realism to the design. 5. Landscaping There are many options for landscaping a railroad. You can add things like grass, trees, lakes or rivers alongside the track. Or you can get a little more in depth and add hills and valleys for your train to travel through, and tunnels through the mountains. Anxiety Attacks and Depression - Are Anxiety Attacks and Depression the Same?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By John H Rodriguez Although you may think so anxiety attacks and depression are not in fact the same. However at first glance they do seem very similar. In most cases depression will generate emotions so a person may feel that everything is hopeless, they may feel angry and there may be feelings to despair. In these kinds of people their energy levels are normally very low and people with depression will often feel overwhelmed by the tasks that they need to do in their day to day lives and also in their relationships with other people. However a person who suffers from anxiety attacks will often have feelings of fear, they will feel panicked and anxious in situations that most other people would either not find to be threatening or feel anxious about. These people will often suffer an anxiety attack without being able to recognize what has triggered it and will constantly live with worry or anxiousness. Unfortunately without any treatment a person may find it difficult to work, maintain a relationship or even actually leave their home. Yet both anxiety attacks and depression are often treated in much the same way and this may explain why these particular disorders are often confused. Often anti-depressant medication will be used for the treatment of anxiety attacks and also behavioral therapy is often find to be helpful in treating both anxiety attacks and depression. At this present time there have been specific causes as to why people suffer from anxiety attacks and depression. But it is believed that both the emotional and physical symptoms a person feels during either an anxiety attack or depression stems from them having a chemical imbalance in the brain. Certainly a person suffering from depression can be the result of different kinds of experiences during their life that can occur in early childhood or in later life. Whilst a person who is suffering from even the mildest of anxiety attacks can have a major impact on how the course of a depressive illness goes. So it is important that the involvement of anxiety attacks and their symptoms with primary depression is considered when someone is being treated. Religion in the Cross Hairs; Can Humankind Ditch Their Addiction?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

By Lance Winslow Most people who have observed the current situation in the world and the world war that some say has already started believe that much of the problems around the globe are caused from world religions. World religion has certainly been in the crosshairs for a while and yet human kind will not ditch their addiction to these ancient customs, literature and tales slightly modified for modern times. Perhaps it would be good to eliminate all world religion and therefore leave the human species with less to fight over. When your children are fighting over a toy sometimes it is best to take the toy away because they are abusing that toy in using it to cause conflict. This is seems to wake them up rather quickly and it helps them get along. Can we do the same thing with World Religions? Why does humankind need relation in the first place? Sure, in previous times religion was needed to keep civilizations together and societies a strong, as they all believed in a common theme. Perhaps it did make sense at one time, but in the present period it simply no longer makes sense. There are too many variations of world religion and they are fighting over semantics. When world religion is used to incite violence, wars and ignite World War III then I would say it is time for world religion to take a timeout and perhaps be completely eliminated to prevent further conflict, international terrorism and nuclear war. The human species is addicted to religion and they need some help. Unfortunately they will not admit they need help and therefore, here we go again as we repeat history. What’s the Best Way to Present Live Bait?

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

By Trevor Kugler So what is the best way to present live bait? The best way to present live bait is really pretty simple. The best way is the natural way. You want your bait to appear to be as normal as possible. For example, if you’re fishing in your favorite stream, you want is to seem to the fish that the worm that you’re using for bait has just crawled out from under an underwater rock and is now tumbling naturally with the current. Or if you’re lake fishing, you want the bait to appear as natural as is possible. The more natural your bait looks, the better results you will have. What you want to avoid is the ever popular “worm ball”. This is where a fisherperson takes a worm and hooks it over and over on a hook that’s much too large, thus creating the “worm ball”. Although small fish may fall for this, large ones won’t. I see all too much of the dreaded “worm ball” on our rivers and streams. It’s just not necessary, not to mention not productive and completely unnecessary. A person should employ a “gang hook”, especially when fishing with the good old American worm. A gang hook is simply two small hooks tied in tandem. With some research, their fairly easy to tie yourself, or you could purchase them from someone like JRWfishing.com, either way they’re the perfect way to present a worm that looks as natural as is possible to look while still having hooks in it. So what if you’re fishing with live bait, but not worms? The exact same principles mentioned above apply. You want the bait to look as natural as is possible. If it’s a minnow, you want it to look like a wounded minnow. If you’re using a leach, you still want it to look like a leach when it’s the water. The same goes for a crawfish, for example. You’re going to catch more fish, the more natural your bait looks. It’s that simple. Hook size is also very important with most freshwater fish in North America. And most people use hooks for live bait that are entirely too large. For example I’ve hooked and subsequently landed many rainbow trout that measured from 18 inches to 23 inches on size 10 hooks! For those of you who don’t know, that’s a small hook. Most people would look at a size 10 hook and say, “what are you going fishing for, minnows?” But when you employ fishing equipment such as gang hooks, that’s the size hook that should be used for much of your freshwater fishing. When a worm is rigged on a gang hook using size 10 hooks, the hooks are barely detectible, and that’s what you’re looking for. If you use gang hooks, you will catch more fish, there’s no doubt about it. Pediatric CI Therapy - An Interview with Dr. Stephanie C. DeLuca

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By CarolAnn Bailey-Lloyd As each day passes, medical research communities strive to find alternative means of evaluating and treating specific conditions. One of those communities is comprised of a professional and highly educated team of PhDs at Alabama University at Birmingham, located in Birmingham, AL. Sharon Ramey, PhD developer and head of research efforts (of Pediatric CI Therapy) with co-researchers, Stephanie C. Deluca, PhD, K. Echols, PhD., Pt. PCS, and E. Taub, PhD. broadened Pediatric CI investigations. Pediatric Constraint-Induced Therapy, (also called Pediatric CI Therapy) was initiated to further advance treatment in children suffering from neuromotor disabilities. Funded by a grant from the Alabama Health Service Foundation, the Pediatric Neuromotor Research Clinic was established and is now being co-directed by Drs. Echols and DeLuca. CI Therapy, also known as “Taub Therapy,” was initially developed by Dr. Edward Taub, Director of Taub Therapy Clinic in Birmingham, AL. A medical innovation that is successful in over 95% of stroke patients in helping regain significant movement, Taub therapy is an effective stroke rehabilitation therapy that consists of restricting the use of unaffected limbs to “rewire” neurons in the brain. To explore Pediatric CI Therapy, I asked Dr. Deluca a few questions about this particular therapy in an informal interview: Q [C.Bailey-Lloyd] Could you explain exactly how the therapy works? A [Stephanie C. DeLuca] The therapy is aimed at children who have asymmetric abilities with their upper extremities because of a lesion within the central nervous system. It involves casting the child’s stronger arm and hand with a lightweight splint which the children wear 24 hours a day for 3 weeks. Children are then treated for 6 hours each day for 21 consecutive days. Q [C. Bailey-Lloyd] What can one expect from this therapy, and on average, how long is treatment necessary? A [Stephanie C. DeLuca] This varies from child to child and is dependent on the child’s incoming abilities. But children routinely develop numerous new motor abilities with the weaker arm and hand. Q [C.Bailey-Lloyd] How long has this treatment been in use and how successful is it? A [Stephanie C. DeLuca] We have been implementing this approach for almost 5 years with approximately 65 children and have seen very dramatic results. But again where children end up is dependent on where they start. Q [C.Bailey-Lloyd] Are there any side effects to this treatment? Please explain A [Stephanie C. DeLuca] In general there have been very few negative side effects. Minor discomfort with relation to the cast but that is usually very transient. Q [C.Bailey-Lloyd] Who utilizes this therapy (in practice) and how widely is it used across the nation? A [Stephanie C. DeLuca] We are the only clinic using the entire protocol that we are aware of. Q [C Bailey-Lloyd] Is this therapy effective on neurological disorders/ diseases other than Cerebral Palsy and Stroke patients? A [Stephanie C. DeLuca] That still needs to be addressed with research. On the question of Pediatric CI Therapy effectiveness opposed to other conventional medical treatments, Dr. DeLuca referred me to recently published research efforts in a Pediatric paper. According to the research team, the stated results were”… Children receiving pediatric CI therapy compared with controls acquired significantly more new classes of motoric skills (9.3 vs 2.2); demonstrated significant gains in the mean amount (2.1 vs 0.1) and quality (1.7 vs 0.3) of more-affected arm use at home; and in a laboratory motor function test displayed substantial improvement including increases in unprompted use of the more-affected upper extremity (52.1% vs 2.1% of items). Benefits were maintained over 6 months, with supplemental evidence of quality-of-life changes for many children.” In the Pediatric Paper Conclusion, “…Pediatric CI therapy produced major and sustained improvement in motoric function in the young children with hemiparesis in the study.” In closing, Pediatric CI Therapy offers a promising alternative treatment to children with neuromotor disabilities. Holidays Can Produce Depression

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Justin Meyer There is another reason why people suffer from depression at this time of year. It has to do with loneliness. When people feel lonely at this time of year they get quite sad, and if you are already suffering from symptoms of depression, this can jack your symptoms up a few notches. But there are a few things that you can do to keep from being alone at this time. The first is to get together with other friends who are not spending the holiday with their families. If you live far from your family and you have other people who are in the same boat, get together and have a holiday party for yourselves. Become each others surrogate family and keep each other company. You will be entertaining yourselves, and you might even have a better time than if you were with your real family. Another idea is to volunteer. There are senior centers and homeless shelters that are always looking for volunteers, but because of the cold and extra donations around this time of year, they are looking for more volunteers to help serve food. This will allow you to help prepare food if you enjoy that activity, and it will allow you to be around people who are grateful to see you and are grateful for your assistance. This will leave you with a good feeling and a great memory for the holiday. Jesus Loves Homosexuals & Lesbians

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By Paul Davis I lived with four guys in Bible College, three of which were former homosexuals. Every human being must first realize that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ (Romans 8:38-39). Jesus purchased for us with His blood newness of life, which we must walk in daily (Romans 6:4). If you remain in willful sin and choose not to do so (Hebrews 12:1; 2:1), your liberty in Christ will be forfeited. “If we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins but a fearful judgment and fiery indignation from the Lord, which shall devour us” (Hebrews 10:26-27). We who think the shed blood of Christ to be a common thing and take it for granted shall be worthy of a greater punishment (v. 29). Likewise the blessed Holy Spirit that liberates mankind from self and sin, if we after having been sanctified go back like a dog to its vomit, counting the Spirit an unholy thing, we become unworthy of God’s grace. Any child could look at two guys making out and know intuitively something isn’t right with that picture. Nature itself teaches us about spiritual things. Gays naturally can’t physically procreate (1Corinthians 11:14). Neither can they impart life. Love is something God gives to all humanity unconditionally. His blessings however are conditional according to our obedience (Isaiah 1:19). Homosexuals and lesbians version of love is a bit perverted as it doesn’t rejoice in the truth (1Corinthians 13:6). To rejoice and yield to iniquity opens the door for demonic activity. When we forget the counsel of God’s Word and lust exceedingly, eventually God Himself will turn us over to our own lusts and send leanness to our souls (Psalm 106:13-15). Many times people so crave and idolize their habitual sin, it becomes an idol and god unto them. Not retaining the holy most high God in their knowledge, their Creator gives them over to a reprobate mind to worship the creation and be defiled thereby (Romans 1:28). The Bible mentions several demon spirits throughout the sacred text. Here are just a few demon spirits that work heavily to influence and enslave homosexuals and lesbians: - a lying spirit (1 Kings 22:21-22) - a spirit of perversion (Isaiah 19:14) - a spirit of lust (James 4:5) - a spirit of whoredom (Hosea 4:12; 5:4) - a spirit of bondage (Romans 8:15) Not willing to glorify God, preferring to make a vain show in the flesh, sexual perverts dishonor their own bodies and become increasingly vile. Since their foolish hearts are darkened and resistant to the truth, it is very difficult to set them free (Romans 1:20-24). Having changed the truth of God into a lie, they worship the creation rather than the Creator (v. 25). The Bible mentions “gross darkness” (Isaiah 60:2) that can be “felt” (Exodus 10:21). No human spirit can lie to the Father of spirits above. The sinful, alienated, and isolated soul knows gross darkness that weighs down the heart within. Spiritual heaviness is a gruesome burden that only God above can lift and remove. God repeatedly and graciously calls out to humanity, stretching out His hand. The loving heavenly Father is continually disregarded, His counsel rejected, and His rebukes not heeded by wayward souls. The end of these self-righteous souls is calamity, fear, desolation, and destruction (Proverbs 1:24-26). It seems many people who dive head first into perversion eventually become bi-sexual and even resort to bestiality. This is how demons work. Sin opens to door to destruction taking you further than you want to go, keeping you longer than you want to stay, and costing you more than you want to pay. I have compassion for those bound by all things - addictions, substance abuse, perversion, lust, homosexuality, nicotine, etc. I myself was a slave to sin, pornography, and lust until God opened the prison doors for me. Having been forgiven much, I love much! I now therefore as an anointed servant of Christ mightily arise and endeavor to set the captives free (Luke 4:18; Isaiah 61:1-3). Basically in simplicity human beings have one of two choices. They can either live in the flesh or in the Spirit (Romans 8). What you think about all day long will reveal what governs you and in which direction you are headed (Romans 8:5). To be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace (v. 6). All sexual sin and perversion can only be overcome by the power of the Holy Spirit within an individual (Romans 8:13). Nobody therefore should be judgmental about any sexual sin - lust, adultery, perversion, homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, etc. Were it not for the beloved Spirit of God, we would all be bound in some type of perversion and selfish distraction. The Holy Spirit liberates the soul and flesh making mankind whole (2 Corinthians 3:17). “It is not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord of hosts” that men are made free to fulfill their divine destiny (Zechariah 4:6). Let us who think ourselves to be godly and spiritual be merciful. Jesus encouraged us all to show mercy, realizing that we will also at some point in time need mercy (Matthew 5:7). Don’t be a judgmental Pharisee. Such an attitude will neither love humanity, nor set them free. Like Jesus love everyone unconditionally. If in doubt error on the side of mercy and faith, hoping somehow sexual deviants would repent before breathing their last breath and come to Christ. Meanwhile love and live an exemplary life before them so as to attract them to their loving heavenly Father above. Abundant life is for whosoever will (John 10:10). Transformation can come to them in the twinkling of an eye when they are ready to embrace Christ, the cross, and welcome the blessed Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Pray that you not enter into temptation” (Matthew 26:41). You can win this battle against the flesh as you live and daily develop your spirit to be strong within (Ephesians 3:16). God is most gracious and forgiving to those who humbly acknowledge the error of their ways and repent. Today is the day of salvation for whosoever will. Humbly bow before God in heaven, ask for forgiveness, plead the blood of Jesus to cover your sins, and invite the Holy Spirit that raised Christ from the dead in your heart. When you do, you too can experience a brand new start! Call me when you do, as I would like to rejoice with and help you on your spiritual journey. Florida Family Lawyers

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Peter Emerson In Florida, family lawyers represent cases in unified family courts. The main aim of the unified family court is to render justice that is accessible, fair, effective, responsive, and accountable. These lawyers handle all matters related to marriage and divorce, alimony, child custody, division of liabilities and assets, juvenile law, domestic violence and the rights of grandparents. They handle divorce related issues by rendering legal advice to their clients at different stages of the divorce proceedings. They provide all necessary legal information, clarify doubts, offer alternative solutions and represent the case in the courtroom. Sometimes they try for an out-of-court mutual consent for divorce so that the `dirty linen is not washed in public. Some family lawyers act as mediators to try and iron out the differences between the spouses, offering counseling so that divorce might be averted. In this role, instead of offering legal advice to their client exclusively, they act impartially so that both parties can benefit. The Florida Bar Association, based in Tallahassee, regulates the function of all family lawyers working in the state. These lawyers, by virtue of holding membership in the bar, are offered professional training of the highest order to handle issues in a fair, timely, efficient and cost-effective manner that is smooth for the parties concerned. The official website of the Florida bar, www.floridabar.org hosts several pamphlets of information for public use, a few of which are `Marriage, `Family Mediation, `Divorce in Florida, `Shared Parenting After Divorce, `Adoption in Florida, `Juvenile Arrest, and `Legal Rights of Senior Citizens. Some of these pamphlets are published in Spanish for the benefit of the Spanish-speaking community. The website is also an excellent resource to locate family lawyers in Florida. The official website of the Florida state courts, http://www.flcourts.org/, is also an excellent source of information to learn about family law issues and locate family lawyers in Florida. Florida Lawyers provides detailed information on Florida Bankruptcy Lawyers, Florida Business Lawyers, Florida Criminal Lawyers, Florida Family Lawyers and more.
